I would like to shed
The darkness that cloaks me,
But it continuously chokes me
Even as I go to bed.
I would like to be rid
Of the nightmares that haunt me,
But they completely confound me
And often throw me off the grid.
I would like to shake off
This monster that’s taken hold of me,
But it strongly shackles me
And pins me hard into the trough.
So, I am left imprisoned
In this quagmire, so deep
That everything pains me even as I sleep
And my mind’s every thought gets poisoned.
